Regulated entities can now request on demand one-to-one NVES Unit Registry (unit registry) ‘Initiator’ and ‘Authoriser’ training for their organisation. This training session will support them to use the unit registry.

Before booking, an entity must have been approved for, and opened, a unit registry account. This will ensure the training is valuable.

If an entity is not ready to apply for an account just yet, training sessions will be made available as entities need them.

Training details

  • Length: 1 hour
  • Delivery: Online via Microsoft Teams
  • When: As requested, starting from Wednesday 15 April 2026
  • Audience: Regulated entities and their authorised users
  • Requirements: You must be a regulated entity that has opened a unit registry account
  • How to book: Entities will need to email their NVES Account Manager with the details of staff they want to attend the training at NVESRegulator@infrastructure.gov.au.

Why attend?

Understanding how to use the unit registry is essential to trading and extinguishing units. Entities with an interim emissions value (IEV) above zero can extinguish units against their IEV to lower their final emissions value (FEV). If an entity doesn’t have units or wants more units, one way to do this is to trade with another entity. Entities negotiate directly to determine the terms of the trade.

For further information, you can read about unit trading on our website or watch our video about the NVES Portal, NVES Unit Registry, unit trading and penalties(Opens in a new tab/window).

What the training will cover

The session will help entities and their users to:

  • use the NVES Unit Registry to manage their compliance obligations under the NVES
  • understand the different roles in the unit registry such as ‘Initiator’, ‘Authoriser’, ‘Registry Administrator’ and ‘Registry Viewer’
  • manage their units, including viewing, trading and extinguishing units.

The training will also help them to understand other key concepts including their IEV, benefits of trading and/or extinguishing units and how to get contact details of entities interested in trading.
