As 2025 draws to a close, the NVES Regulator marks not just the end of a calendar year and the end of our first performance period, but the end of our very first year of operation. It has been a formative period—our first as a newly established economic regulator, and my first as Regulator—spent building the foundations Australians can trust: clear in purpose, credible in action and genuinely supportive of the industries we oversee.

Looking back, I’m proud of what we’ve achieved in collaboration with our regulated entities, peak bodies and industry groups. Together, we:

  • Defined our regulatory posture, clarifying who we are and how we approach compliance.
  • Published our first comprehensive guide about the NVES and NVES Regulator.
  • Rolled out an account management model linking entities with dedicated support.
  • Recorded nearly half a million NVES-covered vehicles on the Register of Approved Vehicles(Opens in a new tab/window) (RAV).
  • Established new data intelligence and assurance capabilities to improve accuracy and transparency.
  • Released numerous educational videos, now viewed almost 1,500 times.
  • Launched our website on 1 July, which has since drawn more than 15,000 visits.
  • Conducted 21 user-testing sessions with 45 industry participants, producing 10 key concepts that informed NVES Portal and Unit Registry design.
  • Released the NVES Portal in September, enabling entities to manage their obligations directly.
  • Hosted 7 webinars and 3 in-person workshops, engaging more than 500 participants.
  • Published 11 editions of NVES Regulator News(Opens in a new tab/window), growing our subscriber base by 51%.

These milestones matter. They show industry and a regulator working together to establish a system that is transparent, workable and future-focused. And they set a strong foundation as we move into the 2026 performance year.

As we head into the festive season, the NVES Regulator team will take a well-earned break. Our office will close from 25 December 2025 to 1 January 2026, reopening at 9 am AEDT on 2 January 2026. Account managers will be available until midday on 24 December, and we will monitor urgent enquiries from 29 to 31 December.

We encourage entities to reach out early so we can support them before the shutdown period begins.

On behalf of the entire NVES Regulator team, thank you for your cooperation, engagement and trust in our inaugural year. We look forward to working with you again in 2026.

We wish everyone a safe and restful festive season.

As we wrap up the year, I want to thank all our regulated entities, peak bodies and industry partners.

Your engagement and collaboration have been essential to everything we’ve achieved.

This year we:

  • Defined our regulatory posture.
  • Set up dedicated account managers for our entities.
  • Recorded almost half a million NVES-covered vehicles on the RAV.
  • Strengthened our data and assurance capabilities.
  • Launched numerous educational videos and a new website.
  • Released the NVES Portal, and
  • Delivered 7 webinars, 3 workshops and 11 newsletters to keep everyone informed.

These are just some of the milestones we’ve reached together in 2025—and we’re excited for what’s ahead in 2026.

On behalf of the whole NVES Regulator team, have a happy and safe festive season.
